Way back in the second week of March, our wholesaler held their bi-annual food show extravaganza. Since our wholesaler services stores all over New England, New York and Pennsylvania, the event is not held in Olean . . . or even DuBois! Instead, it’s held at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut!
So, while the show itself lasts for three days, we consume almost two of them by travel. You may be wondering why we don’t fly? It’s a two-hour drive to the airport in Buffalo, combined with all the rigamarole and waiting associated with airports. Then a short flight to Connecticut followed by a car rental and a drive to Monteville to the hotel/casino. It’s actually less complicated just to drive the 450 miles by car!
You also may be wondering why we go at all since virtually everything available at the “Show” is also available to order on-line, from the comfort of your own desk. Apparently, the wholesale enjoys seeing our smiling faces in person because they offer better pricing and more deals in person at the show, than they do on-line. Enough so that it makes it worth our while to attend!
All the items pre-ordered during the week of March 9th-11th will begin filtering into our store soon. There will be deals in every department in the form of displays, shippers (those cardboard aisle blockers) and reduced retails over the normal pricing. These “deals” will continue throughout most of the summer months until the next food show in August.
It’s also an excellent time for manufacturers to roll out new products for your perusal. Unlike some big chain stores, when we are provided a better (lower) cost, we immediately pass those savings on to our customers. Our gain immediately becomes your gain. Watch all the departments and all the aisles over the next several months to take advantage of savings on items you were probably going to buy anyway!
