WEEK 25 JUNE 22, 2026

Dear Customers,

The first birthday that I remember very well I had just turned 10 and we were on a rare family vacation.  In fact, it was probably more memorable because of the change in venue, more so than the fact that I was a year older.  Birthdays take on a special significance when you are young.

For example: first birthday being a teenager, first birthday when I could drive, first birthday when I could vote and first birthday when I could drink.  Each milestone meant that you were suddenly considered by society to be old enough to do things you couldn’t do before- even the day before!

There are cultures that place absolutely no significance on birthdays.  They don’t acknowledge them and they certainly don’t celebrate them.  Most of us, however, do expect a bit of celebrating . . . even getting a little miffed if our family minimizes or even forgets our “big day!”

That’s why this summer’s observance of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s birth on July 4th, 1776, is such a big deal.  Compared to England which is 1100 years old and France, which, depending upon how it was unified can be as old as 1035 years, the United States of America is a mere child.

As I write this, huge commemorative parades are still being planned along with special events such as massive fireworks displays and celebrations of all shapes and sizes.  As time grows closer, the number of events will continue to grow and evolve.  One thing that is a given with any celebration is food!  Americans love to celebrate with food and drink and the weather in the months of summer generally lends itself to large gatherings whether it be familial or town wide.

Make sure you check our ad in the coming weeks and also check our Facebook pages.  While our weekly ads are often completed a month in advance of their printing date, the internet  allows us maximum flexibility to take advantage of special pricing or spur-of-the-moment deals that sometimes materialize often overnight.

Our holiday hours are not shortened in any way as are some industries.  We will be here with open doors every morning at 7am (the lone exception being 8am on Sunday) and will stay open till it begins to get dark at 9pm!
