WEEK #36 SEPTEMBER 7, 2026

Dear Customers,

The 107th NFL season is scheduled to begin this week on Wednesday night in the annual NFL Kickoff Game.  It will feature the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks hosting the New England Patriots.  From that moment until Super Bowl LXI on Valentine’s Day, 2027 you will have the opportunity to either “enjoy” or “put up with” (depending upon your outlook), professional football for over 22 weeks!

College football began a week and a half ago, when TCU hosted North Carolina at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.  After hundreds and hundreds of football games contested at every level and division, the 2026-2027 season will conclude on January 25, 2027 in Las Vegas.  That’s an impressive 21 weeks of college football games.   Is it any wonder, then, that some 41-53% (depending upon the pollster) of American adults identify football as the nation’s top sport?

Football is something a little less than football without football themed snacks to go along with it!  I might get some blow-back on that statement but watching a game on TV is better while munching something delicious to help alleviate the stress.  Pretzels, chips, popcorn, subs, pizza, and chicken wings are all acceptable fare.

Chicken wings are said to have been created in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo.  Since then, they’ve grown exponentially in popularity until you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who hasn’t tried them.  Back in our old supermarket, prior to moving here in 2003, we started making what we called Chicken Tidbits in our deli.  While chicken wings are comprised of dark meat, Tidbits are boneless chicken breasts cut into generous cubes and wearing the same breading  and sauces as wings.  They were immediately popular and now they’re a daily staple in our hot foods case.

Available in a plethora of delicious flavors, Tidbits are for those who don’t want to get their fingers greasy because you can eat them with a fork.  They’re also for those who don’t like the waste of gnawing gristle from a chicken wing bone.  Everybody eats chicken wings differently.  Some leave a good portion of the meat on the bone when they toss them, and others leaving the bones looking like they ran into a school of piranhas!

But, when you’re eating Costa’s Chicken Tidbits, there’s absolutely nothing left in the carton but a little sauce . . . and nobody’s saying you can’t eat that too if you like!  No waste – nothing but flavor and deliciousness.
