WEEK #34 AUGUST 24, 2026

Dear Customers,

Summer vacation ends this week for most of the school districts here in McKean County.  Years ago, all the neighboring districts chose their own start dates and end dates for the school calendar.  When the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical school was started in Port Allegany, it just became easier for those schools involved to follow that same schedule.

Later this week, Hubber football begins their regular season against the Otto-Eldred Terrors and follows up a week later with long-time rival, Port Allegany.  Also, this week, Girls Varsity volleyball kicks off their slate of matches with the Kane Area Wolves on Wednesday night.  Coed Varsity Cross Country waits until next Tuesday to begin meets with a co-op squad made up of runners from Smethport and Port Allegany.

Co-op Soccer already got under way last week vs. the Galeton Tigers and Varsity Golf, featuring linksters from Port Allegany and Smethport also began their season at Coudersport Country Club before the first day of school.

As a former parent of school-aged athletes, I am well aware of how rare it was to have everybody sit down at the dinner table together.  Maybe it’s the way I was raised, but family dinners are extremely important to me as they were to my own Dad.  But with games, meets and matches scheduled once or twice a week and the remaining days designated for practice sessions, it’s nearly impossible (with the possible exception of Sundays)  to get everyone’s schedules to align.

Costa’s Deli can take this problem and knock it out of the park!  With over 30 varieties of 12-inch subs to choose from and the innumerable combinations made from them, satisfying everyone’s own personal tastes, it’s a given that everyone in your group can get what they want at the best prices around.  I laugh to myself when I see sub commercials on television touting this sub or this sandwich at twice what we charge!

The area’s best chicken wings, plain or breaded, in over 20 varieties are sure to satisfy even the most discriminating tastes.  Don’t like paying for the chicken bone?  Get boneless chicken breast tidbits in any of your favorite sauces and you can literally eat everything but the Styrofoam container!  Our fresh dough pizzas have been a favorite for decades.  With over 25 varieties to choose from, you don’t have to always opt for cheese & pepperoni, even if its always been your go-to choice.  Why not try a Reuben, a Chicken Cordon Bleu or a Lasagna pizza for a change?  Whether it be subs, wings or pizza, any choice you make is also perfect to take on the road for your own personal tail-gate!
